Saint Luis Rey Serie A 2001

The San Luis Rey brand is believed to be based on a reference to the popular 1927 novel by American author Thornton Wilder, The Bridge of San Luis Rey.
The brand itself was first registered in Cuba by the Zamora y Guerra Co.,
located at 810 Calle Maximo Gómez in Havana.
In 1940, the name Saint Luis Rey was registered by two English tobacco importers,
Nathan Silverstone and Michael De Keyser.

In September 15, 1960 The Saint Luis Rey factory and its assets were nationalized by the Cuban government.
From 1960 to 1992, the brand was exclusively marketed to the UK market by NR Silverstone Cigar.
In 1993, due to popular demand, Habanos S.A. began exporting this brand worldwide.

The brand is today produced at the Briones Montoto factory in Havana,
where Romeo y Julieta cigars are produced.
These cigars are well constructed with an even burn despite giving the impression of being underfilled.
The wrapper looks fantastic, with an oily look to it.

Creamy with great depth and flavor, it opens with a bit of spices and wood, becoming creamier as you hit the second third, finishing with more earthiness and a return of spices.
These cigars remain medium to full body in strength,
the corona gorda retains some oomph despite it being over 17 years of age.
