Didier Dagueneau - Astéroïde
A cuvee that offers the quintessence of Sauvignon Blanc!
Didier Dagueneau founded his own wine estate in 1982 in Saint-Andelain, in the Loire Valley. Its favorite grape variety is Sauvignon Blanc, which is mostly produced under the name of Pouilly-Fumé. Despite some difficulties in the beginning, that were due to the winemaking methods used by this unconventional man since the age of 20 years based on his intuition, the winery is recognized today internationally and gained an excellent reputation.
This renown has been acquired with the help of determination and everyday hard work, and of course thanks to an incredibly meticulous owner. During all stages of vinification as well as during aging, Didier Dagueneau pays a lot of attention to the wine. The vineyards are cultivated in an environmentally friendly manner. Disbudding is used to control yields. Harvesting is only manual and grape sorting is very strict. These practices led the winemaker to produce Sauvignon Blancs of exceptional quality.
In 2008, after an accidental death of this extraordinary winemaker, who even had the audacity to rename his street into "Ernesto Che Guevara", his children took over the business, perpetuating brilliantly the work of their father. His son Louis-Benjamin was also named "Winemaker of the Year" in 2016 by La Revue du Vin de France.
Today seven vintages represent the estate. The Astéroïde that we are presenting to you today, comes from several rows of vines that are not grafted and are 25 years old. Always harvested very ripe, this wine is produced in limited quantities, about 600 bottles per year. Pouilly Fumé offers great aromatic intensity, nice flavour strength and pure minerality.
On the palate, the Astéroïde is mind-blowing, its crystalline power and aromatic intensity declining on the notes of citrus and offering a pure mineral expression.
Astéroïde is an absolute exclusivity that will perfectly accompany shellfish such as lobster.
