Partagás The Book

The great story of one of the most famous cigar brands in the world!

The author of the book, Amir Saarony, is well known in the cigar world. With over 95 trips to Cuba, where he even lived and worked in the late 1990s, Amir is an almost obsessive collector of vintage Cuban cigars. Thanks to his immense expertise in the field, he has been a consultant for many private and institutional collectors and has contributed to magazine articles on Cuba and cigars. Subsequently, he undertook the writing of his own book: Partagás The Book.

According to him, the purpose of this book was not to tell the story of Partagás in an academic way, but rather to provide entertainment for those who share a passion for Cuban cigars. It is also a journey through the history of Cuba in the 19th and 20th centuries and its tobacco industry.

Over time, the author's project has evolved due to his obsession with the history of Cuban cigars and the culture surrounding them. Through meetings with many other collectors, Amir Saarony realized that much of the history of Cuban cigars has not been preserved. Thus, in his personal quest for information, he befriended Zoe Nocedo Primo, director of the Havana Tobacco Museum.

From then on, the author quickly became aware of the lack of means of this museum, sometimes even leading him to part with many of the rarest and most beautiful pieces. Thus Amir Saarony decided to donate part of the profits generated by the sales of his work to the museum to help it continue to collect, preserve, study, exhibit and promote the fascinating history of this cultural icon: the Cuban cigar.

Partagás The Book was not produced with enormous resources in time or money, but was fuelled by the immense dedication of the people involved. Many people around the world have given their time, energy and enthusiasm to move this project forward. The book is a concentrate of love and passion for the Cuban cigar.

After more than two years of work between historians, writers, museum directors and collectors, Partagás The Book was successfully launched at the Festival del Habano in 2013, with a cocktail at the Partagás factory.

Thus, on 272 pages, extensively documented with more than 800 illustrations: images and documents from the National Library of Cuba, the National Archives of Cuba, the Partagás Factory Archives, the Tobacco Museum of Havana and private and public collections from all over the world, Partagás The Book reveals the great history of one of the most famous cigar brands in the world.

The lives and exploits of the men who owned it, their successes and failures. The book looks at the owners, the cigars, the advertising and the competitors of the time, as well as the current quality control, the history of the "lector" of the factory, an interview with the former director of the factory and the history of the Casa del Habano of the factory told by its director, Abel Expósito Díaz. Simon Chase, from Hunters and Frankau, one of the world's leading experts on Cuban cigars and their history, also shares his first memories of visiting the Partagás factory.

Partagás The Book is an exciting read that should be of interest to all aficionados.
