San Cristóbal de la Habana

A cigar brand created by Habanos in tribute to the city of Havana.

San Cristóbal de la Habana is a post-revolutionary brand created in 1999 from scratch by Habanos S.A. Its name is a tribute to the city of Havana, founded more than 500 years ago, on November 16, 1519, the day of "San Cristóbal" (Saint Christopher). It seems that before the revolution there existed a small Cuban cigar factory with the same name, but no link is established between the two.

Starting point in his conquest of the world and at the origin of the name Habanos, the city of Havana plays a key role in the history of the Cuban cigar.

The catalogue of San Cristóbal de la Habana offers cigars with a strength ranging from light to medium. The brand's first cigars were introduced in 1999 at the dawn of the new millennium as a tribute to the city's long history. The catalogue then included four vitolas: La Fuerza, La Punta, El Principe and El Morro. The latter one was discontinued in 2013. Each of these vitolas refers to one of the fortresses built between the 16th and 18th centuries to defend Havana.

Since 2004 each new cigar is named after an old street in Old Havana, such as: Muralla, Mercaderes or Oficios.

All the brand's vitolas are made "Totalmente a Mano con Tripa Larga" with tobacco leaves from the Vuelta Abajo.

In February 2019, during the XXI Festival del Habano, Habanos paid tribute to the Cuban capital on the occasion of its 500th anniversary. The San Cristóbal de La Habana brand, which at the same time celebrated its 20th anniversary, was naturally honoured at the opening night.

This edition was also an opportunity for Habanos to present a special humidor (there were only 500 produced): the San Cristóbal de La Habana 1519. The latter is the successor to the San Cristóbal de la Habana 5 Aniversario Humidor, of which 500 units were also produced to celebrate the brand's 5th anniversary in 2004.

Since its creation, San Cristóbal de la Habana has been one of the brands with the most exclusive cigars for La Casa del Habano and Habanos Specialist points of sale: the Mercaderes, the Muralla, the Oficios, the Torreón (presented in a ceramic jar) and more recently the Prado. The 20 Aniversario, presented in a humidor with 20 cigars, should soon joined them.

Among other special productions, the brand was selected for the 2009 edition of the Colección Habanos with the Book San Cristóbal de la Habana O’Reilly. It contained 20 cigars specially created by Habanos for this occasion and was produced in only 1,000 copies.

Lastly, we had to wait until 2019 to welcome the first regional edition of the brand: La Cabaña, a Dobles (50 x 155mm). There were only 10'000 boxes of 10 cigars produced exclusively for Cuba.

To learn more about San Cristóbal de la Habana cigars and the history of the brand, we would be delighted to welcome you to our walk-in humidor, where you will find all the special productions of the brand along with the cigars from the brand’s regular catalogue.
