Presented in a box of 10 units, the Montecristo Double Edmundo Tauromaquia and Morante de la Puebla is an exclusive edition for the Spanish market. Production is limited to 1,000 boxes, each numbered individually. These latter are dressed in a black lacquer reminding of the Cohiba Behike boxes and bear an illustration of Morante de la Puebla, one of the greatest matadors in the world! José Antonio Morante Camacho of his real name, is a kind of link between the world of bullfighting and that of Habanos. This baroque bullfighter, known for his very particular style, shares his love of bulls with his passion for Cuban cigars and smokes one before each performance to relax.
The particularity of these Double Edmundo (50 x 155 mm), besides being limited and adorned with a personalized double band, lies in the fact that they are at least 5 years old.
Established at the beginning of the 15th century in Cuba, bullfighting had only a relative success in its early days. It was not until the end of the 19th century that Spanish matadors such as Luis Mazzantini and Guerrita arrived to experience its apogee. The bullfights were followed from 1890 to 1894 and the island had more than twenty arenas, the most important being in Havana, Santiago de Cuba and Cárdenas. Then, with the war of the United States against Spain which ended with the victory of the Americans, the bullfights were prohibited on October 10, 1899, by General John Rutter Brooke, who took the command of Cuba.
