Plasencia Year of the Ox

A Salomones for the brand's first limited edition in honour of a Chinese New Year.

In Chinese culture, the ox is an animal valued for its important role in agriculture and for its qualities such as diligence and honesty.

The Plasencia family, one of the world's leading premium tobacco producers, chose the year of the ox, an animal with which it shares certain values, to introduce its first limited edition in honour of a Chinese New Year.

Nestor Andres Plasencia, Managing Director of Plasencia Cigars, said: "The Year of the Ox is dedicated to the hard-working people who are in the trenches, cultivating the very tobacco we used in this blend. We at the Plasencia family consider ourselves farmers first. Since 1865, our family has gained invaluable tobacco knowledge, born of unwavering hard work and dedication. The Year of the Ox celebrates that passion.”

For this first cigar dedicated to a Chinese zodiac sign, Plasencia has chosen the Salomones (58 x 178 mm), a vitola already present in the catalogue of the "Alma Fuerte" collection. The latter offers cigars made from a unique blend of aged tobaccos grown on the best land owned by the Plasencia family.

The Plasencia Year of the Ox, with its customised triple band, is also made with top-quality Nicaraguan tobacco leaves, grown in the traditional way, from seed to harvest. A special feature is that the wrapper leaves are then aged according to an ancient ageing technique reintroduced by Plansencia. Indeed, after being carefully selected, they were gently folded in order to keep a perfect appearance, even after a long period of aging. It took many years for the result of this process to meet the brand's requirements.

The result is a perfectly balanced cigar with an impeccable construction. The excellent draw provides a rich taste experience, with a bouquet of cashew nuts, red fruits and milk chocolate. There is also a hint of peppermint.

Like all the brand's cigars, each of the 20,000 Plasencia Year of the Ox has been hand-rolled in Estelí, Nicaragua, the brand's birthplace.

The production of the Plasencia Year of the Ox is limited to 2,500 boxes of 8 units, for a total production of 20,000 cigars. Like most of the cigars released for the Chinese New Year, the Plasencia Year of the Ox is presented in a red and gold box specially made for the occasion. These two colours have a special meaning in Chinese culture. Red symbolises luck and happiness and gold symbolises wealth.

With this Salomones "Year of the Ox", Plasencia joins the list of cigar brands offering limited edition cigars for the Chinese zodiac calendar. We will have to wait until next year to discover what Plasencia has in store for the Year of the Tiger.
