Romeo y Julieta Churchills Añejados

No less than ten years of aging for one of the most famous Habanos.

The famous vitola of the brand Romeo y Julieta integrates the series "Añejado". Available in limited quantities, the Romeo y Julieta Churchills Añejados have been stored for at least 10 years in optimum conservation conditions in Cuba.

The aging process allows the cigar to acquire a sweet complexity that enhances and complements the original character of the Romeo y Julieta blend. The aroma is full-bodied with notes of nuts, coffee, sweet wood and cedar that are obtained thanks to years of contact with a cedar leaf placed in its tube. Indeed, each cigar is individually enclosed in an aluminum tube. These tubes testify the age of the cigar as they were replaced in 2008 by premium tubes decorated in the brand’s colors. The band itself is also a proof of the cigar’s age since the production of the one dressing the Churchills Añejados was stopped in 2008.

As for the Montecristo Churchills Añejados, each cigar bears a second specific band stamped "Añejado". This caption can also be found on the corner of the box, like for regional editions.

Each box contains 25 tubos which are manually controlled after maturation. They are stamped "Revisado" before being packaged in a high-quality cardboard box of a unique design.

About the brand:

Named after the tragedy of William Shakespeare's lovers (1597), the Romeo y Julieta brand was launched in 1850s by Inocencio Álvarez Rodríguez and José Manin García. However, the brand was officially registered only in 1873. Then, in 1903, Romeo y Julieta was bought by "Don Pepin", a nickname given to Jose Rordíguez Fernández, a brilliant businessman who was already at the head of a tobacco factory. His commercial skills allowed him to develop a strong image of the brand which was aimed at export.

Throughout the first half of the 20th century, Romeo y Julieta was specialized in the manufacture of Figurado. This format of a vitola, at the time very sought-after, experienced a decline in popularity after the Second World War. The Figurado would only be brought back in the mid-1990s along with the Cuaba brand, whose production is integrated into the Romeo y Julieta factory.

In parallel, Romeo y Julieta was specialized in the creation of personalized cigar bands. In that way aficionados could enjoy to have cigars bearing their name. As a result, there have been created around 20,000 different bands.

Romeo y Julieta quickly gained an international success. Moreover, Winston Churchill came to visit the factory in 1946, and became a strong supporter of Romeo y Julieta’s excellence. This led to a surge in popularity as all the aficionados sought the cigar that the British statesman appreciated so much. Thus, the brand has renamed the Julieta No.2 (47 x 178 mm) "Churchill" in his honor. Churchill's size is used by hundreds of cigar manufacturers around the world and is still one of the most popular sizes so far.

Today Romeo y Julieta is the brand of Habanos S.A. which offers the most varied range. All its cigars are rolled "Totalmente a Mano with Tripa Larga" with a long filler made of tobacco leaves from the region of Vuelta Abajo.
