La Estancia cigars arrived on the market in 2014. The brand is young and still little known by aficionados. However, it was created by the Meerapfel family, a family that has been respected in the tobacco industry for decades.
The story begins in 1876 when an eponymous company was founded. It operated in various sectors of the tobacco industry such as growing and trading tobacco leaves from all over the world, including Germany, Indonesia, Cuba, Cameroon and other countries. Today the company is also in charge of the worldwide distribution of well-known brands such as Padrón, Opus X or Arturo Fuente, providing, by the way, wrapper leaves for these brands, as well. Furthermore, since 2014 the company has been producing premium long-filler cigars under the La Estancia brand.
La Estancia was created by two brothers, Jeremiah and Joshua, and is based on the tobacco heritage and expertise acquired by the previous four generations of this dynasty. Indeed, these high-end cigars are made in Honduras from carefully selected local tobacco leaves as well as from Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic and Cuba. The particularity of the Cuban tobacco is that it dates back to before the revolution times, which makes this blend incredible! Actually, the company M. Meerapfel Söhne Belgium S.A., not being American, was able to acquire Cuban tobacco in the past. The aim of the previous generations of the Meerapfel family was to store it in order to sell it once the embargo was over, but the new generation decided otherwise.
The jewel of the Meerapfel Selección, La Estancia Edición Exclusiva is the family's personal blend. The best aged tobaccos have been used to elaborate this masterpiece, rolled exclusively by the most experienced torcedors.
Thanks to the aged tobacco, the ammonia will not alter neither aromas nor flavours during a tasting. The smooth start and cigar’s perfect rolling offer a creamy taste experience, with aromas of coffee, cocoa, pepper and a subtle flavour typical of Cuban cigars. A round cigar with delicate aromas of creamy coffee and roasted hazelnuts, and a woody finish.
Finally, the presentation itself is highly enjoyable. The cigars, bearing a pig's tail and dressed with a triple entirely gold holographic band (a first one in the industry’s history), are arranged in a beautiful lacquered black box.
