Alex Elami, creator, master blender and “nose” of the Corleone brand, has had cigars in his blood since his youth. Born in a family of aficionados for whom tasting a vitola at the end of a meal was an almost sacred ritual, he quickly developed a passion for flavours, aromas, terroirs and manufacturing processes to the point of wanting to create his own cigar brand!
The Corleone factories, located in Costa Rica and Nicaragua breathe passion, art and authenticity. It is also with this philosophy that Grauer ashtrays were created. Entirely handmade in Cuban mahogany, they have benefited from all the expertise and the pursuit for perfection of the brand.
Cuban mahogany is a soft wood that features magnificent red reflections. Highly sought after in the 19th century, Cuban mahogany was used extensively in the furniture production of the Empire style. Due to its growing scarcity, it became the most expensive wood on the market. In addition to cabinet making, this type of wood is also sought after for its medicinal and so-called aphrodisiac properties.
Since 1992, Cuban mahogany has been classified in Appendix II of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora), which means that a certificate is required for its export and import.
