Flor de Selva Colección Aniversario No. 20

An exclusively Honduran collection to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the brand!

Since the launch of Flor De Selva in 1995, the cigar collection has continued to grow to delight all aficionados. To celebrate 20 years of cigar making in Honduras, Maya Selva released the Flor De Selva Colección Aniversario No. 20 in 2015.

Entirely hand-rolled, this elegant "puro" comes exclusively from Honduras. It features a wrapper grown in Santa Eulalia’s farm in El Paraíso's famous Jamastrán Valley, with a sub-wrapper, which comes from Olancho and Azacualpa regions. The whole is generously garnished with a selection of the best Honduran tobaccos. This collection takes cigar lovers on an exotic and aromatic journey, with balanced aromas of cedar, dried fruits and a softer touch of honey.

However, while this medium strength blend is used in the 5 vitolas that make up the collection, it is adapted to the different cigar shapes to allow aficionados a different Honduran experience after tasting each one of them.

They are all presented in boxes of 10 units and are part of the regular production of Maya Selva.

Small review of the different cigars:

Let's start with the Colección Aniversario No. 20 Tempo (60 x 152 mm): this Gordo is the most generous module of the collection. It presents an impeccable construction, highlighted by the slightly oily Habano wrapper from the Jamastrán Valley. Hints of leather, dark chocolate and white pepper emerge from its smoke.

Let's continue with the Colección Aniversario No. 20 Robusto (50 x 121 mm): It features a smooth Colorado Habano wrapper with a hint of red. The flavors that emerge from the cigar are those of earth, cedar, natural tobacco and black pepper. Its excellent construction is reflected in its regular combustion and in its draw which shows a slight resistance.

Let's move on to the Colección Aniversario No. 20 Petit Corona (42 x 140 mm): its construction is firm and reveals a beautiful milk chocolate-colored oily wrapper. This cigar produces a dense smoke whose main aromas are those of roasted coffee, cedar, cinnamon, balanced by a touch of orange peel.

Next comes the Colección Aniversario No. 20 Toro (60 x 152 mm): this one has a relatively tight construction, resulting in a rather moderate smoke production with a perfect combustion. It offers a gourmet tasting with notes of toasted brioche, marzipan and nutmeg.

The collection ends with the Colección Aniversario No. 20 Egoísta (52 x 89 mm): this Short Robusto with a quite firm construction presents a nice smooth Colorado wrapper. Its smoke is very generous and releases flavors of creamy cappuccino then oak and coffee. It is a medium strength cigar with a perfect burn. This rather unusual vitola has already appeared in the brand's portfolio, with the Flor De Selva Egoista cigar.

The cigars of the collection are dressed with a double ring stamped with the Flor De Selva logo in bronze. On the top, a Roman statue is embossed, which is highlighted by a bright red band inscribed "20 Aniversario". The foot ring features the handwritten signature of Maya Selva.

About the brand:

If cigar smoking has often been considered a man's business, Maya Selva has made it her strength and has proven that she deserves her place among the top producers of the tobacco scene.

Born of a French mother and a Honduran father, Maya grew up with a dual nationality that allowed her to live both in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and in France during her higher education. Driven by a dream related to tobacco, which she has wanted to realize since her youth, she returned to Honduras in 1991.

In Danlí, she will dedicate more than a year of her life to learn every essential parameter to produce a superior quality cigar, from planting the seeds to growing the tobacco and rolling the cigars. The world of cigar manufacturers being very closed and the Honduran market being already dominated by two legends of the industry: Jorge Buesco and Nestor Plasencia, once ready, she will ask them for support. Don Jorge Bueso refused to help her, but Nestor recognized the potential of the young woman.

This encounter will be decisive. In 1995, Maya presented a first collection of 5 cigars, under her name, which she sold to some of the most famous retailers in the French capital. The following year, the Flor De Selva vitolas exceeded 100'000 sales.

Maya will not slow down, on the contrary. In 1999, she launched her new brand "Cumpay", whose tobacco comes from the volcanic lands of Jalapa in Nicaragua, allowing her to expand, and then to launch "Villa Zamorano" from her own factory in Honduras.

Maya Selva cigars enjoy great success among aficionados, thanks to the values attributed to them, such as the respect for the land, the quality of the tobacco and the tradition of "handmade". Every element, from the tobacco to the rolling, from the box to the ring, is made in Honduras. Like a fine wine, Flor De Selva cigars reflect their origins and the character of their land.
