H. Upmann Magnum 52
A new and limited vitola for the Chinese New Year.
On the 1st of February 2022, on the occasion of the Chinese New Year, China entered the Year of the Tiger. Habanos celebrates the event, for the third year in a row, with an exclusive limited edition cigar. This follows on from the Hoyo de Monterrey Primaveras 18, released last year in the Year of the Ox, and the Romeo y Julieta Maravillas 8, released the previous year in the Year of the Rat.
Launched through Pacific Cigar Co. and Infifon HK Ltd, the distributors of Habanos in Asia, the new limited edition is presented in a luxurious hexagonal box specially made for the occasion. Covered in red lacquer, a colour symbolising luck and happiness in Chinese culture, it features a stylised gold engraving of a tiger, gold symbolising wealth. The engraving is also used on the foot ring of the cigars.
The vitola chosen by H. Upmann for this limited edition is the Segundos (52 x 148 mm), a new module for both the brand and Habanos. Although new, the Segundos belongs to the Robusto Extra family, of which H. Upmann is already part of, with two vitolas exclusively for La Casa del Habano, the Connossieur A (52 x 140 mm) and Connossieur B (54 x 150 mm).
Unlike its predecessor, the Primaveras 18, the H. Upmann Magnum 52 is indeed produced in a limited edition but not numbered. However, like the Primaveras 18, 8 being the lucky number for the Chinese, it is presented in a box containing 18 Habanos rolled "Totalmente a Mano con Tripa Larga" after a rigorous selection of wrapper, binder and tripe leaves from the Vuelta Abajo region.
Romeo y Julieta, then Hoyo de Monterrey and finally H. Upmann, this new commemorative series seems to be well and truly established among the special productions of Habanos. So which brand will be chosen to celebrate the year of the Rabbit? Answer in 2023...
