La Aroma del Caribe

When modernity takes root in the brand's past.

La Aroma del Caribe is one of those Cigar Houses that has gone through many evolutions during its existence, starting at the end of the 19th century, when it was a Cuban brand, using exclusively Cuban tobacco. 120 years later, it built a whole new legacy on the Nicaraguan lands and established itself in Europe under the name of La Aroma del Caribe. While the company still uses Cuban seeds, much of its tobacco is grown in Estelí, Nicaragua, but also in Ecuador.

Since the acquisition of the company by Ashton Distributors, the brand has continued to expand its range by developing new collections or updating some that already existed. Today, we will focus on two of them: La Aroma del Caribe "Base Line" and La Aroma del Caribe "Edicion Especial".

Let's start with the one that constitutes the classic line of La Aroma del Caribe, the "Base Line". Composed of a blend of Nicaraguan tobaccos of superior quality, this cigar with a medium strength profile is assembled by the famous cigar maker Don Pepin Garcia in Estelí, Nicaragua.

It is the famous Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper that covers the 9 different modules present in the collection: the Rothschild (50 x 121 mm); the Robusto (54 x 133 mm); the Corona (44 x 140 mm); the Belicoso (52 x 140 mm); the Immensa (60 x 146 mm); the Monarch (52 x 152 mm); the Churchill (50 x 178 mm); the El Jefe (58 x 178 mm) as well as the Double Corona (54 x 190 mm). These vitolas are characterized by rather traditional aromas of cocoa, cedar, molasses, spices and earth that will suit the most sophisticated palates as well as the occasional smoker.

They are dressed with a double ring: the classic one featuring the brand's logo and a scarlet foot ring. However, the El Jefe vitola has a third ring inscribed with the same name. All the cigars of this range are available in box of 24 units.

Let's move on to the Edicion Especial collection, which was updated when Ashton took over the reins of La Aroma del Caribe. Like the first release, this collection features a golden-brown Habano wrapper, harvested from the volcanic landscape of Ecuador, that envelops a Nicaraguan-grown binder and filler. However, this re-edition offers a stronger cigar this time. It is the result of a blend made in the Garcia family's "My Father Cigars" factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.

The new version of La Aroma del Caribe Edicion Especial is available in 6 sizes: No. 1 (46 x 142 mm); No. 2 (50 x 127); No. 3 (50 x 152 mm); No. 4 (49 x 178 mm); No. 5 (52 x 140 mm) and finally No. 60 (60 x 152 mm). The spicy profile of this blend reveals extremely nuanced notes of smoked almond, leather, cocoa and coffee beans with lots of spice.

Joining the regular production of the brand, the vitolas are dressed with a nice double ring stamped with the logo and the name of La Aroma del Caribe. They are arranged in a very colorful box, canary yellow with colorful borders. Each module is available in box of 25 pieces.

About the brand:

The company's roots go back to the late 19th century, when it was still called "La Aroma de Cuba" and positioned as an exclusively Cuban brand. It even became a favorite of Winston Churchill, before being abandoned for a certain period.

In the early 2000s, the brand experienced a turning point when it was bought by Ashton Distributors, which modernized it for the first time in 2002 and moved its production to the Flor de Copan factory in Honduras. But a few years later, in 2008, a collaboration was born between Ashton and the legendary Don Pepin Garcia who will supervise the production of the cigars now called "La Aroma del Caribe", in his factory in Estelí, Nicaragua.

The Garcia family grows and harvests a wide variety of filler and wrapper leaves in Nicaragua's most prized tobacco growing regions. Jose "Pepin" Garcia and his son, Jaime Garcia, ensure the assembly and quality of La Aroma del Caribe cigars.

The modern revival of the brand has been accompanied by a series of handcrafted editions that are very popular among aficionados, dressed with the original ring that illustrated La Aroma de Cuba. It is this vintage look combined with a new sophisticated and invigorating taste that has earned the company renewed acclaim.

Tradition and pride of origin are an integral part of the manufacturing process of Aroma del Caribe vitolas, whose success lies in beautiful nuances of intensity and flavor.
