Meerapfel Meir

A second line celebrating the Meerapfel family's first generation.

At InterTabac 2022, Meerapfel introduced its second line titled Meerapfel "Meir," in honor of the man who founded the Meerapfel cigar factory in the village of Untergrombach, Germany, in 1876. It is the latest addition to the Master Blend series, where each line is inspired by an iconic figure of the Meerapfel family, starting with Richard, one of the most influential men in the tobacco industry.

Unlike the first cigar, the Meerapfel Richard Double Robusto, the Meir line comes in four sizes: the Meir Churchill (47 x 178 mm), the Double Robusto (52 x 146 mm), the Piramide (52 x 156 mm) and the Robusto (50 x 124 mm).

If "Meerapfel" has not disclosed any details about the tobacco used for the blend, or where the vitolas were produced, we already know that they are unique, especially by their presentation. However, only the origin of the wrapper is known, it is the Cameroonian wrapper produced by the Meerapfel family for decades.

Indeed, the Churchill, Piramide and Robusto cigars are arranged in a sumptuous, durable and lightweight wooden box containing 25 pieces, with an elongated format that allows the 25 cigars to be presented side-by-side, in a single row. It's an elegant and special presentation that you don't usually see. The dark blue ribbon that surrounds the vitolas is produced by Van Tintelen Printing Art B.V. in the NetherlandsAll Meir cigars are dressed in a stunning ring, adnored with the family's name spelled out in three rows, with three letters per row. It is in gold color, with holographic highlights.

Concerning the Double Robusto, they are displayed in a beautiful, limited edition ashtray, specially designed to hold 10 vitolas. It is blue with gold accents and finishes, engraved with the brand's name "MEERAPFEL".

When tasted, these medium strength cigars reveal a certain delicacy enhanced by aromas of cocoa, woody notes and more exotic flavors of pepper and ginger. Produced in only 613 boxes per year, this is a creation that will arouse the desire of any aficionado.

About the brand:

For decades, the Meerapfel family has been a renowned name in the world of tobacco. Its history begins in 1876 when the family business was founded in Untergrombac, in the north-east of Stuttgart, by Meir Meerapfel. Today, the company is involved in various activities of the tobacco industry, such as culture and trading of tobacco leaves, and is also in charge of the worldwide distribution of reputed brands such as PadrónOpus X and Arturo Fuente.

Since 1600, the Meerapfel family started growing tobacco in Germany until 1876, when they decided to start manufacturing hand-rolled cigars for almost 150 years. A business that will abruptly end with the arrival of World War II. Following this catastrophe, the family emigrates to the United States where ErnestMeir's son, builds connections with tobacco production located both in this country and in Cuba.

Later, Richard or "RickMeerapfel, who lived in Cuba for almost a year in the late 1970s, learns all about the culture and production of tobacco and becomes the first American to enter the famous Vuelta Abajo where he will buy the "brown gold" and exports it to Europe. He will then become the master of Cameroonian tobacco, highly recognized for saving it from extinction. That is the main reason why the family is a legendary figure in the cigar industry besides its expertise with Cameroonian tobacco wrapper which is appreciated for its distinct appearance, its flavour but also its rarity.

Jeremiah, Richard's son and president of the Meerapfel company, is now dipping into this heritage to develop new lines of cigars reflecting the brand's image.
