Oliva Serie V Lancero

A format that highlights a flavorful wrapper.

In 2006, Oliva launched a new line that became one of the most important in its portfolio: the highly acclaimed Oliva Serie V, which was an immediate success. Until the arrival of the Oliva Serie V Melanio Lancero in 2022, the Oliva Serie V Lancero was the only vitola of this format in the brand's 16-year history.

Like all the other cigars of the brand, the Oliva Serie V Lancero is handmade in the factory "La Tabacalera Oliva" in Tabolisa, Nicaragua. This puro is distinguished by its Habano Sun Grown wrapper, its Dominican binder and its blend made of Ligero tobacco leaves grown in the Jalapa Valley. They are known for their rich and robust flavor. The construction of the cigar is neat.

According to Jose Oliva, CEO of Oliva Cigars, "The wrapper is so unique and rich that we created a Lancero so people would have a chance to really taste it." The latter has a lovely dark caramel color and gives off aromas of leather, cocoa and herbs. Oliva's chosen module for this vitola, the Lancero (38 x 178 mm), is a slim and sleek format, offering a dense smoke with amplified flavors and a tight draw with slight resistance. The strength of this vitola evolves from light to medium, making it a perfect cigar for novice smokers. However, it will be equally appreciated by confirmed aficionados, due to the complexity of its flavors.

Indeed, once lit, a solid earthy note escapes from the Serie V Lancero to give way to aromas of pistachio, nutmeg, almonds and chocolate blooming on the palate during a 1 hour and 45 minutes tasting.

The vitola is dressed with an elegant brown and gold ring, inscribed "Oliva" and "Serie V". It is presented in a lacquered cedar cabinet of 24 or 36 units, on which the name and the mention "Liga Especial" are stamped.

About the brand:

Oliva is the manufacturer of several cigar brands, mainly grown and produced in Nicaragua and sold internationally. Its history begins in 1886 with Melanio Oliva who started to cultivate tobacco in the famous valley of Pinar Del RioCuba. His work was suspended while he participated in the Cuban War of Independence between 1895 and 1898. Upon his return, Melanio returned to his tobacco growing activities.

His knowledge will then be passed on from generation to generation. Indeed, the process will be continued by his son, Facundo Oliva during several decades before he passed the reins of the culture to his son Gilberto Oliva Senior. Following the Cuban revolution of 1959, he will put an end to his career as a farmer and will start working as a tobacco broker. This will lead him to different countries as a buyer and will facilitate his decision to emigrate to Nicaragua. It was not until 1995 that Gilberto and his son Gilberto Junior launched the brand "Gilberto Oliva" which became "Oliva Cigar" based in Miami LakesFlorida.

Before reaching the notoriety it has today, Oliva had a tumultuous journey by facing numerous crises, the company was able to survive thanks to the stock of tobacco that Gilberto Senior produced and that rested in a warehouse in Nicaragua. The world fell in love with Nicaraguan tobacco and Oliva made it its strength.

To this day, Oliva is the 2nd largest tobacco grower in Nicaragua thanks to its heritage, but also to its proven curing, blending and rolling methods that have built the company's empire. By 2005, Oliva was producing 6 million cigars a year and was still expanding. In just 4 years, that number has doubled to 13 million cigars in 2009.

As Gilberto, who was the first to plant his crops in Nicaragua, said so well: "Nothing compares to Cuba like Nicaragua: it has all the natural blessings for a great Habano".
