Ramón Allones Private Stock
A jewel from the past.
Among the many storied names in the world of Habanos, few carry the legacy and mystique of Ramón Allones. One of the oldest Cuban cigar brands still in existence, Ramón Allones was founded sometime between 1837 and 1845 and has changed hands several times over the decades. Notably, between 1911 and 1927, it was owned by the British importer Hunters, before being acquired by Partagás, a major force in Cuban cigar manufacturing.
During the golden age of the 1920s, Ramón Allones enjoyed enormous popularity, particularly in the United Kingdom. However, from the 1970s onward, the brand saw a gradual decline. Beginning in 1972, Habanos S.A. initiated a rationalisation of vitolas across its portfolio, resulting in many classic Ramón Allones sizes being discontinued. While some new formats were added, the core range was significantly reduced.
Today, the brand is classified as a "Value" line within the Habanos S.A. portfolio. It maintains a small number of regular production cigars but has become especially renowned for its special and Regional Edition releases, often creating several new vitolas annually to satisfy collectors and aficionados alike.
One of the rarest and most intriguing discontinued cigars from this brand is the Private Stock No.1, a true gem of cigar history.
Released in 1960 and discontinued just a decade later in 1970, the Ramón Allones Private Stock No.1 is a cigar that speaks to a bygone era of craftsmanship and tradition. It featured a refined vitola measuring 38 x 163 mm, an elegant and slender silhouette that captured the sophistication of the time.
The cigars were presented in classic dress boxes of 25, distinguished by a ribbon that ran over the cigars and was secured to the outside of the box with a press-stud—a unique detail seldom seen today. Each cigar was adorned with an older version of Ramón Allones' iconic band, adding an extra layer of vintage charm.
Like all Ramón Allones cigars, the Private Stock No.1 was made using full-strength tobacco from the Vuelta Abajo region—Cuba’s most prestigious tobacco-growing area.
Though it has been out of production for over five decades, the Private Stock No.1 remains a coveted piece of Habanos history among collectors. Its rarity, elegant construction, and historical significance make it a fascinating chapter in the legacy of one of Cuba’s oldest cigar brands.
Ramón Allones Private Stock No.1 is a reminder of the golden age of Cuban cigars—a jewel from the past that continues to inspire admiration and nostalgia.
