In 1908, at the rising of a new Panama, José Varela Blanco not only moved countries but also moved minds. He established the country's first sugar mill and gave his children the freedom to start making the best aged rums in the world. From the beginning, his was a different family business.

He brought together the local communities, respected the land and cared for his workers. He inspired the people around him and the generations that followed. Today, as always, Ron Abuelo continues to inspire himself, as well as new generations of rum pioneers.
