Plasencia Year of the Rabbit

A new limited edition in honor of the Chinese New Year, placed under the sign of the Rabbit.

Each year, the Chinese New Year (or Lunar New Year) is one of the main celebrations in many countries or regions of the world. It corresponds to a cycle of 12 years, each represented by one of the animals that make up the Chinese astrological signs: the Rat, the Ox, the Tiger, the Rabbit, the Dragon, the Snake, the Horse, the Goat, the Monkey, the Rooster, the Dog and the Pig.

These are complemented by one of the 5 natural elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal or Water. They determine the personality according to the nature of their energy.

Starting on January 22, 2023, this Chinese New Year is placed under the sign of the Water Rabbit.

In Chinese culture, this animal is valued for its advantageous characteristics such as longevity, peace and prosperity.

For the third consecutive year, the Plasencia family, one of the world's leading premium tobacco producers, has chosen to continue its "Year of" limited edition cigar series, which began in 2021 for the Year of the Ox.

Currently head of the company, Nestor Andrés Plasencia said, for the release of its new vitola, that "the rabbit represents the perfect animal for these changing times, for its ability to adapt during different periods with grace and elegance". He also pointed out that since the rabbit is a symbol of longevity, it fits perfectly with the tobacco coming from the different Plasencia farms, because it also improves over time to obtain particular and new flavors.

As for the Year of the Ox, then the Tiger, preceding the Plasencia Year of the Rabbit, this new "Year of" is festively dressed with a triple ring customized for the series. Like most of the cigars released for this Chinese New Year, they are presented in a red and gold lacquered box, colors that symbolize luck, happiness and wealth.

The chosen vitola by Plasencia for this limited edition is the Toro (54 x 165 mm). This module, which the family seems to appreciate particularly, is used in all the collections of the brand such as Alma Fuerte, Reserva Original or 146 Cosecha. However, it does not appear in the catalog of the Alma del Campo.

Plasencia Year of the Rabbit is made from tobacco grown in a very special area of the Jalapa Valley. The result is a Nicaraguan Puro, which evolves from mild to medium strength, perfectly balanced. This blend was created to match the rabbit's redeeming characteristics, such as sweetness and elegance.

The production of Plasencia Year of the Rabbit is limited to 6'000 boxes of 10 units, for the world, for a total production of 60'000 cigars. Like all the cigars of the brand, each one has been rolled by hand, in Estelí, Nicaragua, the cradle of the brand.

Let's proceed to the tasting of this new cigar. In appearance, this Toro features a Colorado wrapper, showing some veins. Its leaves have been delicately folded to maintain a perfect, slightly oily appearance and seems to benefits from a remarkably cylindrical construction that suggests a generous and homogeneous filling.

The raw draw immerses us in a harmonious woody bouquet. There is a hint of sweeter almond, floral and oak flavors, supported by white pepper and earth. The whole seems sweet.

Immediately after the lighting, the beginning is greedy with aromas of peanut and cedar. We immediately notice a generous volume of smoke. The draw is excellent and offers just the right amount of resistance.

If the delicacy of the beginning allows to apprehend the cigar gently, at the beginning of the second third, the Year of the Rabbit presents some notes of sweet spices and seems to move towards full and slightly stronger flavors, its evolution is progressive.

The final third rises a bit more in strength. While the cedar and peanut remain, the finish reveals a more roasted flavor, with walnut, coffee and sometimes cinnamon. The smoke production and draw remain fantastic.

With its most recent limited edition "Year of the Rabbit", Plasencia confirms its commitment to being one of the cigar brands celebrating the Chinese zodiac calendar. So, we will have to wait another year to discover what the brand has in mind for the Year of the Dragon.
