C.L.E. 25th Anniversary Toro Gordo

Exquisite notes of nuts with hints of cedar for this delicious puro Honduras.

C.L.E. Cigar Company, founded by tobacco industry icon Christian Eiroa, has announced the arrival of a new blend in its regular catalog: C.L.E. 25th Anniversary. The name does not refer to the brand's 25th anniversary (which will not take place until 2037), but rather celebrates the 25 years its founder has devoted to the cigar industry.

This line therefore welcomes 4 new vitolas: the C.L.E. 25th Anniversary Robusto (50 x 127 mm), the Toro Grande (54 x 152 mm), the Gordo (60 x 152 mm) and the 11/18 (54 x 152 mm). The latter is only available in certain exclusive outlets.

Each of these puros is made entirely in the C.L.E. Cigar Company factory in Honduras, using the highly coveted Authentic Corojo tobacco. They are available in boxes of 25.

Let's have a look at the Toro Gordo (60 x 152 mm), the most generous format in the 25th Anniversary collection.

As for the tasting of this famous "puro Honduras" cigar, its aesthetic appearance is magnificent, wrapped in elegant green and red silk paper it gives it a festive look.  It's no coincidence that this cigar line was released a week before Christmas.

The ring is massive! At once modern and classic, the gilding underlines the brand's refinement and exclusivity.

The Toro Gordo is dressed in a Colorado maduro wrapper for a greater effect. Perfectly taut and smooth, it reveals a subtle aroma of old tobacco and cedar. Its stretched cobblestone shape ensures a firm grip and a singular profile.

Before lighting, the draw offers notes of nuts with hints of cedar, strong on the aroma of the foot.

Here's how the 65-minute tasting of this vitola breaks down.

Once the cigar is lit, notes of fresh nuts are revealed before giving place to a milky aspect of hot chocolate. By the last third of the Toro Gordo, cedar emerges as the dominant flavor profile.

The second third extends its nutty, cedary notes. Halfway through, a rich coffee bean joins the blend in the background before taking over the palate. Coffee notes continue the finish.

In the last third of the cigar, the aromas evolve quite slowly, giving the palate time to adapt. Combustion is of the utmost importance, as box pressed cigars don't usually draw particularly well, but here it's perfectly mastered.

As we slip into the final notes, the coffee remains the focal point of the flavor, accompanied by a touch of cream and cedar. The Toro Gordo finish conveys a hint of red pepper, especially on retrohaling. The cigar is incredibly smooth, with a rich, robust flavor that allows us to savor it until there's nothing left to smoke!
